Originally a tobacco and cotton farm in the 1920's and 30's, we purchased this land in the early 1990's, and returned it to its roots. Overmountain Vineyards was established in 2002 as a commercial vineyard in the Tryon Foothills of North Carolina.
You will visit a working vineyard at Overmountain. In addition, there are 2 established wineries within 2 miles, where you can visit to enjoy tasting North Carolina wines at Rockhouse, and Green Creek Wineries.
Interesting Facts:
There are many accounts by local folks that Cherokee Indians lived in teepees on Mill Creek located on the southern side of the property.
- After you enjoy a walk through the vineyards you can hike down the trails to Mill Creek, and enjoy dipping your feet in the creek.
(You won't want to forget a picnic basket.)
- Evidence of the original home site can be seen by the 100ft hand dug well marked in 1932. Descendents of the original land owners shared stories with us about the beautiful old pecan trees that were also planted in the yard in 1932.
